The TrucksWho are the Trucks? Are they a collection of beer-swilling boys? One might easily conjure up such an image, however, one couldn’t be farther from the truth. No! The Trucks are the all-girl quartet hailing from small-town Bellingham. Founded in the springtime of 2003 as a farce, playing a toddler’s xylophone, a bass, and an ‘86 Casio, Kristin Allen-Zito, Marissa Moore, and Faith Reichel answered the call of Western Washigton University’s Women’s Center cry for no women playing a local 3 day music festival. With only a month’s worth of practice and furious songwriting, the Trucks were born. The Trucks quickly took off, as their catchy songs and enthusiastically energetic live performances got Northwest hipster audiences dancing. In late 2003, with addition of drummer Lindy McIntyre, the Trucks began cementing their sound. Think if Peaches, the Bangles, and Debbie Harry had a slumber party, then invited Cyndi Lauper and Kate Bush for a morning cup of tea: voila, you have the Trucks. It’s an electro pop, dress-up in fish-nets, wigs, and zany costumes kind-of-band. But don’t stop there. Hiding behind this seemingly sexy, boisterous exterior, the band tackles the likes of love, feminism, dancing, broken relationships, old bikes, and big afros. While some of their songs encourage raucous behavior (like "Introduction," "Big Afros," and "Zombie Cha Cha"), the tender, lonely moments filled with longing are not lost on these girls (ne "Messages"). Having entered the studio in late 2005, The Trucks freshman release, Faux Play, will boast its world introduction in August 2006 on ClickPop Records (former home of Idiot Pilot). The Trucks are: Kirstin Allen-Zito (vox, Casio, keyboards, and guitar); Marissa Moore (vox, keyboards, toddler’s xylophone); Faith Reichel (bass, vox); and Lindy McIntyre (drums). The Trucks have opened for Deadboy and Elephantman, and play this year’s Sasquatch! Festival at the Gorge in George, Washington. |
