• Jenny and Nate were in a hippie jam-band called Calobo before The Decemberists.
• Chris funk plays in Portland-based band, Tracker. He’s also heavily involved in the thriving portland hip-hop scene.
• Colin doesn’t always speak in the same vernacular as his songs. He uses smaller words to throw us lay-people a bone every now and then.
• This just in: Colin Meloy does not do crossword puzzles. Not only does he not participate, he actively dislikes them. What is even more stupefying to us is that Colin thinks nothing of it. As if it's the most natural thing in the world to be a human dictionary and not be at all tempted to order the full wall-size crossword puzzle from Skymall Magazine. really, Colin... What is this all about? Because you know we haven't thought of a better reason to use those $10.00 per second phones they have strategically placed on each middle seat of every Boeing 737...
• John Moen is in the jicks and played in the Fastbacks.
• Chris Funk has very powerful eyebrows. They have actually been known to subsitute for the absence of a jack if the decemberists' van gets a flat tire...
• The Decemberists like to play dress-up.
• John and Chris are shameless in their love for Fleetwood Mac.
• Petra Haden played in a band called "That Dog." She has also recorded an a capella version of The Who's, "The Who Sell Out." Oh, and her Kate Bush impersonation is frighteningly accurate, if not the funniest thing we've ever heard.
