Brett DennenBrett Dennen has "that thing", & audiences throughout the US, Canada & Europe are hearing it. At festivals from Bonnaroo (TN), to High Sierra Music Festival (CA), to The Fillmore in San Francisco (opening for Michael Franti) and NYC's Central Park SummerStage (opening for Shelby Lynne) - headlining at Hotel Cafe (Hollywood, CA), Canal Room (NYC), and Higher Ground (Burlington VT), devoted fans are spreading the word, and describe him best: "lush shimmering vocals, an intricately groovin' guitar style, lyrical beauty rare in a young songwriter," and "this soulful blend of everything that feels good.” Rising up around Brett is music - transcending genres, genders & generations. At 6’5”, with a thick shock of crimson hair, there's a larger-than-life appearance at odds with his youthful face - an amusing source of inquiry into his age (he's 26 - yes really!) The hope is, there will be no boundaries when it comes to who is moved by or enjoys Brett's music. Comparisons with Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Tracy Chapman, Taj Mahal, Jack Johnson and others note the eloquence of Brett's artistry, rather than suggest he sounds like or imitates a particular celebrity style. You feel the influence of Dennen favorites; Bob Marley (“for his melodies”), Bob Dylan (“I love his lyrical imagery and the timelessness of his songs”), and perhaps most importantly, Paul Simon (“my biggest musical inspiration”), but you recognize the artist who has his own voice. With his self-titled debut CD doing very well on indie label Three Angels & A Saint Records, (released July 2005 & nationally distributed via FLAGSHIP Recordings), the prolific songwriter is excited about releasing a brand new album, (due Summer 2006) on Dualtone Records. Fans on The Dave Matthews Music Cruise in February had a chance to hear the new songs & their response prompted the skies to open up in a cruise-altering deluge . . . well, maybe Brett didn't cause the weather change, but there is definitely something in the air . . . keep an eye on this one! |
