Portland, OR: FILMguerrero is proud to release the first Menomena album I Am The Fun Blame Monster. Until now, I Am The Fun Blame Monster had only been available on-line and at a handful of stores across North America. With hand-assembled flipbook packaging, the pre-release edition has already garnered attention from critics and radio making several "Best of" lists. Menomena recorded the album at their own Portland studio, and composed most of their songs by using "Deeler", a computer program designed and written by the band's Brent Knopf. "It's a loop-based program that facilitates improvisational recording," Brent explains. The band's spontaneous approach to writing songs reveals a unique vision of inventive, melodic, and ambient-warped pop. Having shared the stage with the likes of Enon, Beans, Xiu Xiu, The Unicorns, Pere Ubu, Pinback, Don Caballero and more, Menomena will support this album with a National tour in the Fall of 2004. While Menomena fly their own artful offerings in the sonic-exploratory air stream, they are lifting off from the same experimental runway as the Brian Eno / David Byrne era guitar-electronica-collaboration. It is the band's originality and unconventional approach that best characterizes I Am The Fun Blame Monster, and Menomena deliver a hugely creative, yet undeniably accessible album.
